ORRVILLE, OH, July 20, 2006 — The makers of Jif® peanut butter announced today a call-for-entries for the Fifth Annual “Jif® Most Creative Peanut Butter Sandwich Contest™.” This year, the grand prize has been raised to a $25,000 scholarship fund with each of the four runners-up receiving a $2,500 scholarship fund. Parents can help their kids (ages 6-12) to enter this nationwide Contest between August 1, 2006 and November 15, 2006.

The “Jif® Most Creative Peanut Butter Sandwich Contest™” addresses two important issues for parents: fostering creativity and saving for their child’s college tuition. According to a recent survey commissioned by the makers of Jif , 95% of U.S. parents think it’s important to foster creativity in their children and 93% agree that cooking or baking can help. In addition, 96% of U.S. parents agree that the rising cost of college tuition is a serious issue and 97% agree that saving money for their child’s education is important.

“We know that parents are focused on providing a good education for their children but the rising cost of college tuition can often make it difficult. We are so exited this year to be able to raise the grand prize to a $25,000 scholarship fund and help them achieve their goal,” says Maribeth Badertscher, Director, Corporate Communications, The J.M. Smucker Company. “In addition, the contest continues to help parents foster creativity and provides them with an opportunity to spend quality time together.”

Last year, the nation’s most creative peanut butter sandwich was inspired by a child’s love for accessories. The Peanutty Pretty Purse Pitas recipe was created by seven-year-old Shannon Lewis of Manalapan, N.J., and consists of Jif Creamy peanut butter, a whole-wheat pita pocket, strawberry-banana squeezable yogurt, fresh banana and fresh strawberries. It was decorated to look like a handbag.

The Fifth Annual “Jif® Most Creative Peanut Butter Sandwich Contest™” is intended to foster creativity and encourage parents and children to spend time together in the kitchen. Parents can enter their kids (ages 6 – 12) in the Contest from August 1, 2006 through November 15, 2006. Ten finalists will be selected by a panel of judges in December and posted on www.jif.com as part of a nationwide online vote. Five finalists will ultimately be selected to compete in a live judging event in New York City in March 2007. The grand prize winner will receive a $25,000 scholarship fund, each of four runners-up will be awarded a $2,500 scholarship fund, and each finalist will receive a Jif® gift basket.

Sandwiches will be judged on the following criteria: creativity; nutritional balance; taste; appearance; ease of preparation. For Official Rules and entry form visit www.jif.com. Entries must be postmarked by November 15, 2006 and received by November 22, 2006: Jif Most Creative Peanut Butter Sandwich Contest™, Cohn & Wolfe, 292 Madison Avenue, New York, NY 10017.
