If you're like most families, you've got travel plans this summer. Maybe it's a little R&R at the beach, a family wedding or reunion. Or maybe you're going to show the kids your favorite museum or campground. Whatever you've got planned, here are some tips to get you there with ease.
Planning: It's the first step to any great summer adventure. Let the kids help as much as possible in the planning. Encourage them to use maps and websites to understand where you're going, how long it will take to get there and what you'll see along the way.
Getting there: If you're flying, try to be one of the last to board so that the kids don't get restless while waiting for takeoff. A selection of audio books on your MP3 player or digital books on your e-reader are great for minimizing luggage while keeping the kids entertained. Pack paper, colored pencils and markers to inspire creativity — and quiet! If you're driving, remember that it's the journey as much as the destination so pack jump ropes and baseballs for fun stops at parks along the way. And don't forget the snacks! Jif To Go™ goes wherever your family goes! Try two new flavors, Jif To Go Chocolate Silk Peanut Butter and Chocolate Flavored Spread and Natural Creamy Peanut Butter Spread.
Being there: Vacations are about fun, but are often busy. A few later nights and an extra treat or two won't harm anyone. However, the excitement of travel can stress kids out and it's wise to balance the adventure with quieter activities. The best vacations include a little time each day for the family to simply be together to read, watch TV or nap.
Looking back: To preserve memories long after the summer fun has ended, encourage the kids to take photos, collect postcards, draw pictures and write down the highlights of the trip.
