Home is where the Hearts are!

2/1/2012

This Valentine's Day, why not celebrate with all your heart? We've got some sweet ideas for decorations, celebrations and special treats. Try these ideas to fill your home with love:

You can wear your heart on your sleeve. Or railing. Or front door! Make Valentine garlands by cutting last year's valentine cards into pennant or heart shapes. Use a large heavy needle threaded with red yarn to connect the pieces and drape them throughout your home. No old cards lying around? Use construction paper or small paper doilies instead.

A monochromatic table is fun for the family, and pretty enough for a Valentine's Day dinner party with friends. A red table runner paired with red napkins, red candles and red flowers looks stylish and elegant. Look through your home for red items to add to the decor. From tea cups to paperweights, Christmas balls to serving trays, more is always better when it comes to an all red table!

Carnations make an easy— and inexpensive— Valentine centerpiece. To make a pretty flower pom-pom, soak a foam floral sphere (available in craft stores) in water. Snip the carnations (at a sharp angle) from the clusters, leaving as much stem on each bloom as possible. Insert the blooms into the wet oasis, placing them tightly together, until the entire ball is covered. For an extra special look, place it on top of a cylinder vase filled with red decorative glass floral accents. You can extend the life of the pompom by placing it in the fridge at night.
